Brian Cosgrove unveils plaque at Cosgrove Hall Court to commemorate former animation studios

Brian Cosgrove, the original founder of Cosgrove and Hall Films, and producer of such works as Danger Mouse and The Wind in the Willows, has unveiled a plaque at McCarthy & Stone’s new Cosgrove Hall Court development in Chorlton-cum-Hardy to celebrate the animation studio that had once stood in its place.

Mr Cosgrove joined McCarthy & Stone’s Regional Sales and Marketing Director, Fiona Brooks, and a number of local dignitaries at the site on Albany Road, to commemorate both the significant heritage of the location and also officially its mark transition into purpose-built retirement accommodation, designed specifically to offer independent living to those aged 60 and over.

Enjoying a specially provided informal luncheon, the guests were able to find out more about McCarthy & Stone’s latest housing provision for later life from the comfort of the development’s stylish homeowner’s lounge, where they were also treated to a special viewing of a classic animations produced by Brian and his former colleague Mark Hall during the studio’s 33 year history.

Mr Cosgrove, said: “I am delighted and honoured to have the development named after Cosgrove Hall and would like to wish the residents many happy years living here.

“We spent many enjoyable years working and producing shows such as Danger Mouse, BFG, Count Duckula and Wind in the Willows at this location until our studio sadly closed in 2009. Happily, Cosgrove Hall’s tradition of producing quality children’s’ programmes continues at our new company, CHF Entertainment which is based in Didsbury.  We are excited about the completion of the first series of our new animation show Pip Ahoy! – a heartwarming story of the adventures of a pup and his friends at a seaside town called Salty Cove, and look forward to creating many more new iconic characters for all to enjoy.”

Fiona Brooks, Regional Sales and Marketing Director at McCarthy & Stone added: “When we first decided to name our development Cosgrove Hall Court, we did so because we really wanted to reflect a bygone era in Chorlton’s history that is still important to the community.

“The homeowners that have since moved in are equally of proud of where their new properties now stand, and they were all keen to do something that would serve as a more permanent reminder of the studio’s impressive heritage. We’re delighted that the event has proved to be so popular with both them, and the local community, and we cannot thank Brian enough for helping us make the day so special.”
